bohemian for president

4.30.2015

“It’s actually spring! For real this time, no more surprise snow storms and stuff,” I said, as I knocked on everything that was made of wood in my house.

I was really excited to continue my spring wardrobe fling today as well, with some skin showing and some (gasp) ballerina flats. My boho blouse is so peasanty (soooooo peasanty, I had to receive a fief from m’lord whilst reading the Magna Carta… just kidding, I went to hug a tree).

Boyfriend jeans, don’t even need to explain why I wore those! They’re awesome and make you look skinnay AF. Plus, if you have cute little ballerina flats, sneakers or short booties, they look like the bomb dot com.

Now, back to my blouse. I mean, it’s amazing! Not only does it give that music festival look that everyone is after, it’s flowy and easy to wear, and the embroidery adds that look that you can only find on acid in the 70s at Coachella.

all wrapped up and nowhere to go

4.28.2015

I'm a little sausage wrapped in bacon. Ever heard of "you gotta suffer to be beautiful"? Well, this is it, bros. I can't even walk. BUT HOW DOPE IS THIS SKIRT, DOE? I wanted to center my whole outfit around this pencil skirt because it does all the talking (and none of the f*cking walking, clearly). A simple black sweater and open toe booties are great partners for this gem. Besides having to walk with a limp like Fiddy (for all you suburban real housewives, that's gangsta slang for 50 cent. because I'm hood like that) it's giving me a pretty sophisticated look. I actually went outside bare-legged today! OMG I seriously feel like I'm stepping out of the Ice Age. This winter was THE WORST and I cannot wait to keep feeling the wind on my bare skin and not get frostbite. What am I saying, I don't get frostbite, I'm a little sausage wrapped in bacon.

well hello there

4.14.2015

Spring has finally arrived in Montreal. Amen to that! It took long enough. But I will not complain, cause you never know, we can get hit with another snowstorm...anything's possible here eh?
I finally went out bootless and sockless. The less layers the better because who wants to be Joey on that Friends episode where he wears all of Chandler's clothing anyway? "Could I be wearing anymore clothes?"
And the silky smooth lightweight fabric of these pants make you feel like you're wearing nothing.
Cause going to work naked is just not an option...in my case anyway.
Have a great not-so-naked Tuesday my peeps!

printable frames

4.13.2015

There is never a "light at the end of the tunnel" when it comes to home décor. There's always something more you want to add or change. And by the time you think you're done, you're now fed up of the first thing you changed therefore you want to change it all over again. Or maybe that's just me. I learned to now take my time, work on one room at a time, and create mood boards to see the full picture beforehand. I also like to shop for the best deals. Some call me cheap, I call it frugal :) In come the reason behind this post.
A couple of months back, Amelia had graduated from a crib to a bed. Leaving an empty wall at the foot of her bed and enough room to just walk. Therefore I couldn't put any piece of furniture. "What to do with this big blank bore" I was thinking as I was staring at the sky high pile of books on the floor. Book shelves of course. So off to Ikea we went and purchased 3 picture ledges at $16.99/ea and used them to hold her books. She loves picking out her bedtime story and looks at her books for a few minutes like she was shopping for a pair of shoes..lol

This now leaves us with empty space above. We didn't want to place another shelf as it would be too difficult for even me to get a book. So instead, we hung wall art. Again, Ikea to the rescue. We purchased 3 frames to match the ledges, at $12.99/ea. I'm quite picky on art therefore I just went on-line and found free printable ones. Yes you read right, FREE! Voila! Her room is now complete :)

(I apologize for grainy pictures. Was taken in bad lighting with an iphone. Terrible blogger I am...tsk tsk)

what's trending

4.09.2015

Put away your frayed denim skirts because it's all about the "clean jean" skirt. But wait for it...with buttons!
Button down skirts are the hottest rage. Length don't matter and neither does fabric but it's got to have buttons going down the front center. Denim and suede however are the most popular choice. And yes again, all due to the 70's fashion trend this season. However I do see this skirt trend going through Fall as well. So get on it ladies.

hair inspiration

4.07.2015

Aside from Fashion Week, we seed a great deal of style and beauty inspiration from Festival Season. Coachella, Governers Ball, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Warped Tour, and Osheaga to just name a few.
It's hot, you'll be dancing, which will result in limp, smelly, sweaty hair. Big faux pas unless you're the actual performer who's getting paid millions to which at that point..no f**ks given. But you're not a performer (and if you are and reading this...thumbs up to me!) therefore you need a no fuss hairdo that's stylish but also hassle free.
In come the double French braids. Funky, trendy, cool, and you will avoid looking like a wet dog. Score!

rolling on the river

4.06.2015

If you don't own anything with fringe...GET ON IT! It's probably the biggest trend this season. It ties into that whole 70's vibe that's being splattered all over the fashion scene. It's a great way to add dimension to any outfit whether it be on a bag, shoes, or clothing.
You won't be able to escape it so just channel your inner hair flipping Tina Turner and embrace this free flowing bohemian trend. (Is it just me or can you also not get the song "Proud Mary" out of your head now?)
You're welcome :)

The Coachella countdown is on. I will not be there but will be living the dream vicariously through my Instagram feed of the lucky cats who are attending. I digress!
So "festival season" will be commencing in less than a week and you still have no idea what to wear. Here are a few ideas among many that I have floating in my head if I were to be going but am not...ok I'll let it go :(

always classy, never trashy, and a little bit sassy

4.01.2015

How to turn your overalls into something chic? Just add at least one classy piece or one sporty piece. I added one of each which makes me sassy :)
Please refrain pairing them with a plaid shirt and work boots. Otherwise you're just asking to be made fun of. You know what they say about farmers right? NOTHING!...so you don't want to look like one.
If you think that overalls are so passé, don't throw them away just yet. Spring 2015 has overalls written all over it. From flare legged to boyfriend fit, denim to leather, distressed to...you get my point. Wear them loud, wear them proud cause the all-in-ones are here to stay!
