rolled up & ready to go

5.27.2015

Got the hots for something long...but it's like a freakin sauna out? I feel you. In fact, I feel you so much because that's my life #hood. When it's time to dress for this weather, it can get confusing. You go from a relatively nice climate in your house, to a goddamn BBQ in your car, to an igloo in your car at the end of your commute, to ballsweat outside again until you comfortably install your butt in your office chair only to turn into Olaf from Frozen 2 seconds later for the rest of the day. Sounds familiar?
So... you can't go in a swimsuit and you can't go naked (trust me, I've asked). You need something that can be rolled up for outside and rolled down for indoors. Keep it loose so nothing sticks to your sweat. No one will even know you're sweating! Except if you have a Ron Burgundy of a sweat mustache. Then I can't help you. Antonacci...OUT!

all in the details

5.26.2015

The first thing anyone notices in a bedroom is the bed.
For the past few years, people have been opting for upholstered headboards rather than the ones that match the remaining of their furniture. Totally understandable. It makes any bed look comfy and polished. It's much more comfortable to lean on when watching TV or reading. And it's just an overall prettier focal point.
When my husband and I got married 7 years ago, this trend had not hit yet. Therefore matching bedroom sets were still the way to go. We went with a 4 piece medium brown wood set. Bed, two night tables, and a dresser. Luckily the set itself is very nice and wood never goes out of style however the headboard has been bothering me. It just felt unfinished.
My problem is that I didn't want to remove and trash our current headboard because it is still a nice set, plus if ever we want to sell it, it would be nice that we have all the pieces. We also had no room to store it. So basically removing it was out of the question. So the only thing that came to mind was, "What if we made some sort of a box headboard that will go over our current one?...like a sock on a foot." Great idea right? Wrong! I searched high and low for someone who can do that for me but everyone thought I was weird. I thought it was a brilliant idea but whatever! I even considered making it myself but 1. Ain't nobody got the time for that. And 2. I wouldn't even know where to begin. I gave up :(
One day, someone posted this gorgeous photo of her work, tufted headboard, chairs, etc. on Facebook. I immediately contacted her to find out if hopefully she can bring my idea to life. And finally...MY DREAM IS POSSIBLE! It took a girl to make it happen..go figure :)
She came over, measured my bed, I chose my swatch, showed her a photo of a headboard I had in mind, took her suggestions and voila...in a matter of 8 weeks, I finally got what I wanted. She made a box with wings, tufted headboard in a gorgeous linen fabric, that fit right over the original headboard without damaging it. I couldn't be happier with the results! Working with Gina from OMG-Headboards was a joy. My husband and I are already thinking about working with her for an end-of-bed seating.

shortalls

5.11.2015

Remember the 80's and early 90's when shortalls were all the rage? And then in the 2000's you looked at old pictures and were like "uuhhh wouldn't be caught DEAD in those again"? Well jokes on you honey bunny, because we are loving these babies again. Thrown into the same category as rompers, short overalls have been spotted on all ages, shapes and sizes. I even saw a preggo wearing one and let me say this: she looked absolutely adorable and not at all like she ate for two. So there it is! Proof that shortalls are as slimming as they are cute. Even if you're looking to lose a few or are maintaining your figure or trying to get some serious gains, shortalls are for you. The friendly kangaroo pouch is there to hide pringles and boiled chicken shakes whatever needs hiding and the straps can go over a tank, a sleeveless shirt, a t-shirt, a plaid shirt or blouse. Even a sweatshirt if you wanted!

Not ready to make the leap? Keep it monochrome like I did. White on white is less visible so you can ease into the trend.

But honestly, just make the leap. You'll be happy you did.

come sail away with me

5.07.2015

Ahoy mateys. Go starburst and hoist the anchors...or whatever. Do I look like a sailor to you? I do swear like one so that's that. For today's post, I thought I would do a bit of a naughty nautical theme to embrace this insanely warm May weather (not to be confused with Mayweather, who I don't like right now. STICK IT, MONEY!!!). Navy and white stripes are everything this season (especially with a red lip...but I'm all about the nudes lolz). Denim can do no wrong here, and neither can my little white sneakers which I only wear on days when I'm a pirate WHICH IS ALWAYS amirite? I could toss my jeans for a bare leg thanks to the length of this shirt but I wanted to be a little more dressed up. Top off with sunnies and bun and it's the easiest thing to pull off.

Arrrgghh you gonna come drink some rum with me?! Let's go.

Mother's Day - The Ultimate Homemade Gift Guide

5.06.2015

We love her like crazy, she deserves the world, and if you're like me, she's difficult to shop for. Mother's!! We literally would be nothing without them.
I always have a difficult time shopping for mine. She's not a fanatic of fashion and couldn't care less about spa's...I know what you're thinking, where the hell did you come from. We are complete opposites. But I guess that's why I love her so much :) She teaches me new things every day.
So what to buy the woman that is my ultimate counterpart? Something homemade and from the heart. Nothing says I love you more than a thoughtful meaningful gift.
So I gathered up a few ideas that I thought were pretty cool to gift your mom with this Mother's Day. Guaranteed smiles and hugs!

Spring essential DIY

5.05.2015

What an awesome way to transform your tight old t-shirts that you love so much but would prefer a looser, breezier fit for the hot spring and summer months up ahead. Also a great way to incorporate the season's hottest "crochet/lace" 70's trim.

dresses for any occasion

Here's the scoop: I still love to play dress up. I'm married, and getting married was one of the best days of my life. Highlight moment? Picking out and wearing my wedding dress. Because I was Heidi Klum for the day and no one could tell me otherwise. When it comes to weddings and proms, getting the perfect dress is like getting half the work done. And it's also an occasion to be OTT (over the top) and do all that glam hair and makeup that goes with fabulous bridesmaid dresses, wedding dresses, prom dresses, you name it.
I've teamed up with www.rosanovias.ca just in time for glamour's biggest season around the world. Check out the site for just about any type of occasion dresses. No more "what am I going to wear." They've got all the colors, cuts, styles & fabrics you can imagine. You can even have a dress made to measure. And I know many of us always worry about how much money is too much because let’s be honest, how often can you wear a wedding dress or bridesmaid dress, etc. Well fear not, their prices are completely affordable, so you won’t feel bad spending it for a just a few hours. Unless you’re like me and you sleep in your wedding dress because it’s just too perfect to take off :)
Check them out here!
