survey

12.02.2010

Yesterday, a reader of mine stirred up an interesting topic of conversation. I'd like to know everyone's opinion on this matter. Please answer poll below and/or leave a comment if you'd like. Knock-offs or the real deal?
On a different note, I finally took some outfit pics. Unfortauntely I had the wrong lens on the camera so the pics are not so clear but on the other hand I was able to take some outdoor shots :)

P.S. The Michael Kors boots I'm wearing are the real deal...lol (Purchased about 3-4 years ago...on SALE!!!)

turtleneck: H&M
floral print skirt worn as dress: vintage
boots: Michael Kors
sunglasses & necklace: Ardene

What is your take on replica's?

Hey Lena!
I personally have no problems if people want to wear knockoffs, to each their own! If I happened to see you dressed as fabulously as you do and saw you in a pair of knockoff Louboutins, I would think they were real (unless i knew every shoe and detail of that particular designer). But I do like to save and splurge on a designer handbag or a pair of shoes. That's just me! Of course when you put it "support the family.." lol, that's obviously a given, but if I could afford to save and spend on a designer item, it just makes me feel a little extra special! :) But everyone has their thing!

Sorry for the long ramble! :p

They make fake shoes, too? I guess they can make knock offs of evertyhing now? Well, I certainly prefer the real thing. However, in my younger years I have purchased a knock off designer bag. You soon realize the quality is no where near as good as the real thing, that cured me! Love the boots, I love MK like Elisharon loves JC!!!!!

Gorgeous, cozy look dear! I too prefer the real deal...this is because designer goods cost so much, therefore only a few people can afford them (or save for long periods of time like myself haha), so they are more rare & unique pieces. If everyone just bought the knock-off version, the designer doesn't get credit for his/her ideas or money from the sale & everyone gets to walk around with the same piece. I don't frown upon people who own knock-offs though dear ;) I still love the shoes you purchased!

those are gorgeous combat boots! damn, MK makes some fiiinneee shooeess (and watches!) :)

My stand on knock-offs? 50-50. I don't mind buying knock-offs/replicas that don't bear the designer's name. For example, there's a lot of Mulberry Alexa's replicas on Ebay. They look similar, but they don't have the Mulberry logo on them. So I'd go for that :)

But saying that might just sound like I'm judging your recent purchase, which I'm not! I actually thought they were real Louboutins!!! I guess as long as the knock-offs are well-made, I don't have a problem with them (Imitation is the highest form of flattery, right?) :) However... tacky Chanel or Coach replicas, now that's annoying :S

Hi Lena, you asked your readers to participate in your poll, yet the poll choices were so biased and not applicable to everyone. the choices should've been simply "Splurge and support the designer" or "Save and buy replicas".

if i had a family to take care of, i'm pretty sure my priorities would not be the same as now, of course i would not be purchasing 600$ shoes, but that doesn't mean i'm gonna go buy the fake ones.

for those who can't afford it, well thats really regrettable, just dont buy the fakes. its as simple as that. the designer market is not for everyone..along with luxury comes recognition and status. why would you want people to think something you're really not? to me, no reason is good enough to justify the purchase of a replica. moreover, the counterfeit industry has long been linked to criminal practices and even terrorism..just saying...

but another alternative is to get something that kinda has the similar looks but without bearing the designer's name on it? i guess thats more appropriate since the whole fashion industry is literally getting "inspiration" from others right?

i, myself, would rather save up and get a pair i've been drooling over for ages rather than go buy the fake ones, the feeling of satisfaction is unparalleled.

but yeah, as i've mentioned earlier in my comment, my priorities will change once there's a few mouths i'll need to feed.

just my two cents..

I meant to comment the other day but got distracted. I LOVE the pigalle as well, and feel the same way you do. $500 could go towards something more important. Based on your post history, it's obvious you have a love, appreciation and respect for fashion. Let the haters hate, you'll be lookin fab.

@ Miss Queenie: I created the poll with those two options because those are the options I personally have. If I didn't have a baby on the way, I would definitely splurge on the real deal!
I unfortunately couldn't find a black pump anywhere that fit just as nice so why should I deprive myself of a great looking pair of shoes because they're fake?
Thank you so much for taking the time to write out your opinion :)

I 100% agree with what Miss Queenie said - well put!

I wouldn't buy a pair of shoes for upwards of $1000.00 (price of Louboutins in Australia) because there is so much more good I could do with that sort of cash (aiding chairty anyone???). BUT I also wouln't purchase something that is a blatant copy - it is theft, it is supporting a criminal market, and it our job as the consumer to not facilitate the criminal market.

You know what? WHO CARES if they're fake - what you said rings true: lots of people have fakes but you just have the balls to admit it. It's true!!

My motto is if someone can't tell if they're real or not, and they ASK me, "Is that real?" then hell yeah I'm gonna say it is bc (1) you're rude for asking, and (2) you can't even TELL if they're real or not.

I DID splurge on a pair of real Louboutins for my wedding, BUT for day-to-day, while i'd LOVE to have more real pairs, I would certainly love to have MORE inexpensive shoes than one pair of designers...

I have to admit that when I was younger, I bought fakes, but I will no longer. if I want something, I will save for it, do without, or buy an inspired piece.

I also have to say that I agree with Miss Queenie. I love your blog, and have been following you for quite sometime, but I don't agree with buying fakes because of the crime associated with it.

Ah well, so you do not download any music as well, huh?...

Lena,
simply buy what you want to. I'm buying fake/inspired ones myself since sometimtes I just do not WANT to spend that much money!
I mean, € 600 for a pair of shoes? This is almost a half of my earnings!

Hi Lena. Great outfit, I love the cosy sweater. Anyway, I'd love to splurge, too but since I don't work to take care of my daughter who is disabled, I can not afford it and have to save. I'm glad I have the option, and sometimes I save up for something to buy the real deal too.

Hi Lena,

I had seen the comments going back and forth. I didn't see the point of her being so negative, it is your decision what you do with you money and what you buy, fake or not. Your reasons for not spending the money on a real pair are completely legit. I think 'fake' is always a good option if that is what your budget allows you, labels should be less important than just buying what you like.

Lena this is a tough one!! I had a look at the website hoping to bag myself a bargain after seeing how great yours looked. I felt a bit like Carrie in Sex and the City though when she sees all the sad Fendi fake bags and decides she doesn't want one after all.

I'm now firmly on the fence xx

I think a quality knock off is great, you're not always paying for quality you're paying for the name. So if the knock off is a good quality, then it's all good! Besides I've had some crap designer stuff I've had to return.
