Pouding chomeur is a dessert which originates from Quebec and also goes by the name "poor man's pudding".
Very simple to make and very tasty. I made this for family get together's on Christmas Eve & on Christmas and was enjoyed by all.

Ingredients for syrup
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 1/2 cups water
3 tablespoons of butter or margarine
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
Ingredients for batter
3/4 cups of sugar
3 tablespoons of butter or margarine
3/4 cups of milk
1 pinch of salt
1 1/2 cups of flour
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1. In a saucepan, melt butter/margarine; stir in brown sugar.
2. Add water & vanilla.
3. Bring to a boil.
4. Meanwhile, make the dough.
5. In a bowl, cream butter/margarine; add sugar.
6. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
7. Add to butter/margarine mixture alternately with milk.
8. Pour syrup into a 9 x 13 baking dish.
9. Drop dough by teaspoons over syrup.
10. Bake at 350F for 30 minutes.
Best when eaten right out of the oven topped off with some vanilla ice cream.
