There will always be haters

5.29.2010

I just want to discuss yesterday's post a little further. Some people made it seem that I only thought about myself and not the baby. This is completely ridiculous!!! All I said was that I'm having a difficult time dressing because I'm at the stage where I look like I have a gut rather than a baby bump, so I'm restricted to wearing loose fitting tops because tight ones look horrendous.
How people construe this as "I'm only thinking of me" is beyond me. Therefore to set the record straight, I'm actually taking care of my little fetus very well. I'm following a nutrition tracker on Baby Fit which helps me make sure that I'm giving my body the essential nutrients and vitamins that my baby requires. It allows me to see if my daily intake of iron, folate, calcium, calories, etc. are in-line. And so far so good. I'm getting all the nutrients I need while staying in 2000 calories a day. My doctor put me on a goal of gaining 25lbs during my pregnancy and I want to abide by it. I'm actually eating healthier than I ever did before however I don't have the mentality of "I'm eating for 2".
I sleep when I'm tired.
I take my prenatal vitamins.
If I feel short of breathe when working out, I take a break.
If I feel nauseas, I still make sure to eat however its foods that I know will ease the pain.
And the list just goes on, on how I think about my baby and its health & well being.
I am not going to be one of those lazy moms that uses the excuses "I'm pregnant so I can have a larger piece of cheesecake", "I'm pregnant so I can't work out", "I have a baby so I don't have time to do my hair/nails", "I have a baby so I don't have time to go to the gym", "I have a baby so I don't have time to go out with my friends anymore", etc. BULLSHIT!!! Where there's a will there's a way.
In conclusion, just because you're pregnant or once you have your baby, does not mean you have to completely forget about yourself it just means you've got a beautiful new little addition to care about as well. I love the fact that I am pregnant, I thank God all the time that I was given this gift, and I can't wait to be able to hold him/her in my arms :)

Anywho, I apologize for the rant but I just needed to get that off my chest.
To liven up the atmosphere, here are some outfit pics taken yesterday evening. We're also

finally getting our driveway done and it's almost complete. No more ruining my heels on rocks!

Ugh, haters to the left.
I have no doubt in my mind that you will treat this soon to be prince or princess beautifully, and people who think otherwise just because you mentioned ill-fitting tops are delusional.
Having a baby does NOT mean you have to stop thinking about yourself, and clearly clothes are your passion. Anyone who gives up the things that make them happy just because they're pregnant or have a baby probably leads a pretty boring life. Everyone needs some "me" time, otherwise I'm sure you'd go a little crazy.
I loved your rant.

I really don't understand what possesses people to write nasty comments when it is completely unnecessary and absolutely wrong.
You are fabulous and everything you are doing for both yourself and your little bump is beautiful and respected. xxx

I guess that some ppl can't make two things at the same time. I mean ppl think that if you take care of yourself and want to look good, you can't take care of anothers. You must not listen to that ppl, I guess their are just jealous because you look so happy and radiant and pretty ;)

Again,
I'm glad you're still putting yourself first and at the same time caring about the little being that is growing inside of you. Being a bit selfish will teach your child that they have to work for what they want and not just be handed it. I know you won't spoil your child, too, much and that's great! Too many are these days and it needs to stop.

What stupid comments, I can't think of anything better for a baby than to have a mother who is healthy and happy. I really admire you for continuing to work out and keeping your sense of style rather than giving up like some people as you mentioned. Oh and you still look fabulous, don't worry about the haters,

Hope I did not offend you.

Wow! It's terribly sad that you have to defend yourself on your own blog. Some people really need to have better self-awareness and know when their judgmental opinion really isn't cared for. I think it's very plausible that you're not forgetting about yourself or your fitness and post-baby body. Your baby is going to flourish from having such a happy and healthy mama. Lookin' great! Love everything about your hair color/style

Don't justify, as you said, there will always be haters. You are a great mom-to-be, you look great and you do everything right! I'm proud of you for taking care of yourself the way you do!

I am a new reader - just found your blog the other day, but can I say when I read your post yesterday, I thought "AMEN, woman!" I got SO sick of wearing the same big shapeless tent/a-line shirts when I was pregnant. It's just the way it is - the funny thing is - now that I have my body back to (almost) normal, I wear those shirts again because they're in style, I love them with skinny jeans or leggings, and let's face it, they're comfy! However, when it's something you HAVE to wear, it's a different story.

It is ludicrous to suggest that you don't care about your baby because you're not loving what you're wearing these days - clearly you're taking great care of yourself.

Anyhoo, just wanted to stop by, say hi and keep up the great work!
Merci!

Ha! That IS ridiculous.

I went back and read the comments, and it seems there was only one negative comment (maybe there were more that you deleted?), but regardless, it just takes one to take an effect (unfortunately).

I don't even 'know' you and know that you aren't just 'caring about yourself' - that's silly! Clearly you're ECSTATIC to be pregnant and wouldn't jeopardize that.

You look fab, and if I didn't know you were pregnant, I wouldn't even be able to tell.

GO GIRL :)

PS - your house is gorgeous. How long have you lived there? (The driveway looks sooo nice! WOW!! -very exciting!- )

You are beautiful and good for you for maintaining your healthy lifestyle! Your baby will be lucky to have such a positive roll model!

You don't have to explain yourself. What you doing is actually way more healthy than just sitting at home when being pregnent.

You're amazing, and ppl will always hate. Don't pay attention.

Veronica Ho said...

I think you're so inspiring in so many ways.

Let those haters be. Haters or lovers, they are still giving you attention regardless - right? Think about it, if they are "real haters" then they wouldn't even bother looking up on your blog. Instead, they are obsessed haters only because they envy your lovely life. Keep your head up, you'll pull through all this.

Ignore those people who think they can tell you what to do - just do things your way!

I have to say, I adore the picture of your dog in sunnies! So cute (we try to do this with our dog but he prefers to eat sunglasses than wear them!). Good luck with your pregnancy hun.

All I have to say, is yeah for you! I'm so glad you put all that out there. Forget all the nay-sayers and the haters! As long as you know you are doing right by you and your family thats all that matters!! I've recently started to work out and eat better for myself but also for my future child. Whenever the hubs and I do have a baby I will be ready to be even healthier than i am now and it won't be such a drastic change. Children should enhance the life you already have not hinder it! You are on the right track and always know that i'm right here reading your blog everyday and applauding every move you make! Congratulations to you and your husband and may this time bring more joy than you have ever known!

i haven't been to your blog in a long time and had no idea you were pregnant! congrats!!! you look totally amazing! and hey, i've been pregnant and know exactly what you mean. there are a few weeks when you just don't feel like yourself and your hormones make everything even harder. nothing fits because regular clothes are too tight but maternity things are too big. you look lovely and don't need to worry about what others say. they've probably never been pregnant and had to deal with this before.

Lena you are going to make a wonderful mother and you have a very healthy mind set...it is when you don't do the things you love and don't take care of yourself that you become depressed and that is no way a mother should be..its sad that more people do not feel this way..best of luck ..i enjoy your blog everyday

How absurd! Sorry to ranting but people spewing such thoughtless vitriol drives me mad. As though a woman having a perfectly natural reaction to unfamiliar yet interesting changes to her body should be condemned a baby hater! Please! You have a wonderful completely healthy attitude and you are inspirational! And way stylish to boot! Wishing you nothing but the best!

Also, oooohhhh... PUPPY!!!

Oh I agree with the friendly-minded comments - ignore the haters. I'm sure that you are a wonderful mom-to-be, and the whole "beer-gut" thing will soon be over. Just a fashion tip for the early months pregnancy - in Sweden, where I am, we have tight t-shirts with a word "baby" written at the bottom of the t-shirt to signal that IT IS NOT A BEER GUT :)

I attached a link if you feel like checking it out.

Hey Congratulations on your pregnancy bring new life to this world is a beautiful thing. With that said everyone is going to have something to say whether its negative or positive. You shouldnt spend time feeding into it or trying to explain yourself. The people who talk about are usually upset because you have something they want. Its sad but true.
