Q & A - About me!

5.02.2010

I know it's a little late but hey...better late than never right? A few posts back, I had received a few questions from readers that I promised I would answer. So here it goes:

Dulcinea: Your accent sounds very English so I wouldn't guess you are from Montreal, so are you originally from further east in Canada?
I was born and raised in lovely Montreal. I'm a true Canadian with an Italian background. Both my set of grandparents were born in Italy. My dad was born in Italy as well and my mom was born in Montreal.

Kristy: How many times have you fallen in love (excl. the hubby)?
My first true love happened when I was around 16 years old. We met through mutual friends and that relationship lasted about 3 years. I'd have to say, that relationship was the worst but I learned a lot.
My next love was right after, at 19 years old. That relationship lasted 2 years. It was very "vanilla". The only good thing about that relationship was the friend I had made, his sister, which we're still friends to this day.
After a sabbatical from "going nowhere" relationships, at around 23 years old I met a guy while vacationing in Miami. This love lasted 3 years and I thought he was the one. The fact that our families lived in 2 different countries made it very hard for us to progress into something further. I am very close to all the family I have here in Montreal and I could not bear to leave them. I thought it would be best if we just remained friends which unfortunately didn't take to well with him but he finally accepted it.
And last but not least, my favorite love of all...Andrew. We started dating when I was 26 years old. We met at work and I actually thought he was gay. He was always dressed so stylish. Luckily for me, it turned out was straight and very much into women. He pursued me, I pursued him and 6 years later we're now married living in a beautiful home with a beautiful dog and I couldn't be happier. He is truly the love of my life and the pot of gold at the end of my rainbow. I am blessed to have such an intelligent, funny, sexy man in my life.
I've always said that my lucky number is 4 and he is my fourth love...strange how life works!

If you could only pick 1 food and 1 item from your closet to live with for the rest of your life, what would they be?
1 food, definitely hands down...good ol' Mac & Cheese. I can eat this and only this for the rest of my life and would never get tired of it. One item from my closet would be my Gucci large wave hobo which I purchased myself for my 30th birthday while my husband and I were vacationing in Europe.

Have you ever done bungee jumping?
Oh my heavens no!!! I am terribly afraid of heights. It's hard for me to even get pushed on a swing or climb a ladder. If I would do it, it's only to conquer my fear and nothing else.

If you didn't have a career in fashion, what would you do?
I've always had a sick fascination with serial killers, don't ask why because I have no idea. Therefore I think I would probably be a psychologist, or in a criminology/forensics department somewhere.

What's your ultimate guilty pleasure?
Raw cookie dough. I know, some of you say gross but I just love it. I can eat this until my stomach starts to hurt.

What would you name your future daughter? son? your next dog?
Interesting question that no ones ever asked me before. My future daughter, I love the name Amelia. I also find it much harder to find boy names for some reason, however I do like Liam a lot. My next dog, I don't want to think about it. I have such a soft spot in my heart for animals therefore I don't want to picture my life without Duke (my 11 month old Dogue de Bordeaux).

Natasha: What type of music do you like to listen to, favorite bands/artists?
I always catch myself listening to oldies from any genre. The Beatles, Guns n' Roses, The Doors, Al Green, Blondie, etc...if the record's got miles on it, I love it! I don't really have a favorite band but my favorite artist of all time...Madonna. She's the cat's pyjama's :)

What is your favorite part of blogging?
The amazing interesting people that I have met and am still meeting. I wish I had the time and money to travel all over and meet them in person.

Why don't you have an on-line blog store?
I actually just started it and you can check it out here Quality Rivets Shop.

Sonal: What is your best bargain and most expensive clothing item, accessory/handbag and or shoes you own?
The best steal would have to be a red wool vintage blazer by Ralph Lauren that I purchased at a thrift shop for only $12. The most expensive clothing item would be a pair of Diesel Jeans at $400...I have no idea what I was thinking at the time but they still look amazing on me. They better at that price right? The most expensive accessory would be my engagement ring. Expensive bag would be my Gucci large wave hobo. Shoes, well I am extremely lucky to not have to pay full price for shoes. My most expensive pair would have to be Juicy Couture ballerina's which I purchased on sale for $60.

If you could live in the US, where would you live?
Tough question because I've only been to a few places in the US. Out of the places I have visited, I would have to go with Los Angeles. I love the fact that it's a happening city with so much to do and there's also beaches with a real ocean which is something Montreal is lacking. The weather is perfect and the shopping...love it! Wish I could go back.

Would you ever take up blogging as your full time job?
If it pays well enough, yes I would consider it.

Bea: What are your favorite brands and why?
I'm not really a brand whore. I pretty much love anything that looks good on me even if I paid it $5 at a thrift shop. If I had the money to spend though, I would probably blow it on Alexander Wang because I love how versatile the clothing is.

And there you have it. Lena at a glance. Hope you all enjoyed this Q/A and feel free to ask me any questions you like at any time. I will answer to all of them...maybe not right away but I will get to them.

Thanks for sharing all that information, Lena. Born and raised in Montreal, does that mean you speak French? I am so fascinated by Canadian French. I live in the French part of Switzerland, and I am learning French but the Canadian French is sooo different, I don't understand a word.
Btw, you and your blog inspired us to visit Canada, probably not until next year, but we really want to go!
Needless to say I love your blog....

@ Dawn: We are required to speak French in Quebec therefore I speak English, French and Italian due to my background. The Quebecois French is completely different, sort of slang, but you don't want to learn it. In my opinion, it sounds very uneducated. I prefer speaking the regular French from France.

Thanks for getting back to my question! I've never spent that much $$$ on a pair of jeans but, at least you still wear yours! I'd love to buy myself something really nice for my 30th (in 2 years), I'm thinking David Yurman or possibly something along the lines of Gucci...but my husband may just have a fit if I buy another bag! Does your husband ever tell you you have too many handbags or shoes? heh.

@ sonal: My husband thinks I have too much of everything...lol He's realized that he'll never understand women, so he has just let me be. He would intervene if I had a spending habit however I'm very good with my money and aside from those one pair of jeans from a few years back I mostly go shopping at affordable retailers or thrift shops.
