Thank you...from: your feet

2.08.2010

I gave my feet a break from heels yesterday by wearing flat boots. I really should dress relaxed more often. I felt great, my feet felt great, it was just a great Sunday :)

Gnocchi

2.07.2010

My favorite pasta of all time is gnocchi. If I go to a restaurant and they have it on the menu...I'm ordering it.

Andrew and I hosted a lunch for 11 people this afternoon, therefore what better reason to try a new recipe I had received from a friend of mine...sweet potato gnocchi. That along with about 6 other dishes. I'm surprised I'm actually awake right now to write this post after all the cooking and cleaning I've been doing.
Last night the Italian in me arose. We prepared the gnocchi around 11pm with great oldie's music playing in the background to liven us up accompanied by some delicious rose wine. Who knew cooking can be so fun :)
Below are a few pictures of the pasta in the making, the recipe, and a video of Andy Garcia rolling gnocchi in the movie Godfather III.
I would've taken pictures today during lunch to show you the final product but I was too busy accommodating everyone that I did not have time to bring out the camera. Let me just say that they were enjoyed by all.

Servings

Original Recipe Yield 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 (8 ounce) sweet potatoes
  • 1 clove garlic, pressed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Bake sweet potatoes for 30 minutes, or until soft to the touch. Remove from the oven, and set aside to cool.
  2. Once the potatoes are cool enough to work with, remove the peels, and mash them, or press them through a ricer into a large bowl. Blend in the garlic, salt, nutmeg, and egg. Mix in the flour a little at a time until you have soft dough. Use more or less flour as needed.
  3. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. While you wait for the water, make the gnocchi. On a floured surface, roll the dough out in several long snakes, and cut into 1-inch sections. Drop the pieces into the boiling water, and allow them to cook until they float to the surface. Remove the floating pieces with a slotted spoon, and keep warm in a serving dish. Serve with butter or cream sauce.

Knee Socks

2.06.2010

Was in the mood of acting cute during this photo session...lol
OK, I know socks are a huge trend this season and I adore all colors and styles but knee highs however just doesn't seem to look good if you don't have a nice set of proportionate legs...like the unfortunate moi.
I have an issue with my legs. Big thighs and very small calves & ankles and knobby knees. Very un-proportional :( Therefore black knee high socks just accentuates this, shall we say default of mine.  But I'm a good sport and wanted to try it. The result came out...ok. I would wear them again however next time I will try it with a slightly longer skirt, dress, etc., in order to mask this "problem".
Please don't get me wrong, I do not think I'm fat in anyway...I just wish my thighs matched my calves or vice versa. Ahhh, insecurities...the joys of being a woman :)
