polarized specs

7.17.2015

"I only got 10 likes in the last half hour, do you think I should take it down?"
Story of our lives, glued to Instagram or Facebook. But that's life, now! We are all addicted to social media. And our jobs now require us to work from computers and laptops for, like, 8 hours a day (that's a third of your day!!!). When you calculate how much time you spend looking at a screen vs another human being, it's cray. Bet you don't even remember how ugly your brother is.
(Not so) fun fact: 150 times. That's the average number of times you'll ogle your instafeed and sext text your bf in a day.

It's time to improve the quality of time we spend in a virtual universe. It's time for, drum roll please...

(duh-duh-duhhhhh)

These awesometacular specs are made specifically to protect your peepers from the artificial light and blue glare of your computer/phone. The polarized lenses act as a filter and transform the blue light into natural light...helping in the elimination of migraines and eye strains that you are most probably experiencing, you instah*e. Did I mention they look amazing? So trendy, you gotta get a few pairs. They're non-prescription glasses, for all you faux-hipsters out there. Go ahead, I dare you to treat your baby blues.

Here's a little help. Use coupon code "Coconut" (valid for 10 days on all online catalogue items except for the sales category) at check-out and receive a 30% discount!

all in the details

The first thing anyone notices in a bedroom is the bed.
For the past few years, people have been opting for upholstered headboards rather than the ones that match the remaining of their furniture. Totally understandable. It makes any bed look comfy and polished. It's much more comfortable to lean on when watching TV or reading. And it's just an overall prettier focal point.
When my husband and I got married 7 years ago, this trend had not hit yet. Therefore matching bedroom sets were still the way to go. We went with a 4 piece medium brown wood set. Bed, two night tables, and a dresser. Luckily the set itself is very nice and wood never goes out of style however the headboard has been bothering me. It just felt unfinished.
My problem is that I didn't want to remove and trash our current headboard because it is still a nice set, plus if ever we want to sell it, it would be nice that we have all the pieces. We also had no room to store it. So basically removing it was out of the question. So the only thing that came to mind was, "What if we made some sort of a box headboard that will go over our current one?...like a sock on a foot." Great idea right? Wrong! I searched high and low for someone who can do that for me but everyone thought I was weird. I thought it was a brilliant idea but whatever! I even considered making it myself but 1. Ain't nobody got the time for that. And 2. I wouldn't even know where to begin. I gave up :(
One day, someone posted this gorgeous photo of her work, tufted headboard, chairs, etc. on Facebook. I immediately contacted her to find out if hopefully she can bring my idea to life. And finally...MY DREAM IS POSSIBLE! It took a girl to make it happen..go figure :)
She came over, measured my bed, I chose my swatch, showed her a photo of a headboard I had in mind, took her suggestions and voila...in a matter of 8 weeks, I finally got what I wanted. She made a box with wings, tufted headboard in a gorgeous linen fabric, that fit right over the original headboard without damaging it. I couldn't be happier with the results! Working with Gina from OMG-Headboards was a joy. My husband and I are already thinking about working with her for an end-of-bed seating.

Mother's Day - The Ultimate Homemade Gift Guide

5.06.2015

We love her like crazy, she deserves the world, and if you're like me, she's difficult to shop for. Mother's!! We literally would be nothing without them.
I always have a difficult time shopping for mine. She's not a fanatic of fashion and couldn't care less about spa's...I know what you're thinking, where the hell did you come from. We are complete opposites. But I guess that's why I love her so much :) She teaches me new things every day.
So what to buy the woman that is my ultimate counterpart? Something homemade and from the heart. Nothing says I love you more than a thoughtful meaningful gift.
So I gathered up a few ideas that I thought were pretty cool to gift your mom with this Mother's Day. Guaranteed smiles and hugs!

Spring essential DIY

5.05.2015

What an awesome way to transform your tight old t-shirts that you love so much but would prefer a looser, breezier fit for the hot spring and summer months up ahead. Also a great way to incorporate the season's hottest "crochet/lace" 70's trim.

dresses for any occasion

Here's the scoop: I still love to play dress up. I'm married, and getting married was one of the best days of my life. Highlight moment? Picking out and wearing my wedding dress. Because I was Heidi Klum for the day and no one could tell me otherwise. When it comes to weddings and proms, getting the perfect dress is like getting half the work done. And it's also an occasion to be OTT (over the top) and do all that glam hair and makeup that goes with fabulous bridesmaid dresses, wedding dresses, prom dresses, you name it.
I've teamed up with www.rosanovias.ca just in time for glamour's biggest season around the world. Check out the site for just about any type of occasion dresses. No more "what am I going to wear." They've got all the colors, cuts, styles & fabrics you can imagine. You can even have a dress made to measure. And I know many of us always worry about how much money is too much because let’s be honest, how often can you wear a wedding dress or bridesmaid dress, etc. Well fear not, their prices are completely affordable, so you won’t feel bad spending it for a just a few hours. Unless you’re like me and you sleep in your wedding dress because it’s just too perfect to take off :)
Check them out here!

printable frames

4.13.2015

There is never a "light at the end of the tunnel" when it comes to home décor. There's always something more you want to add or change. And by the time you think you're done, you're now fed up of the first thing you changed therefore you want to change it all over again. Or maybe that's just me. I learned to now take my time, work on one room at a time, and create mood boards to see the full picture beforehand. I also like to shop for the best deals. Some call me cheap, I call it frugal :) In come the reason behind this post.
A couple of months back, Amelia had graduated from a crib to a bed. Leaving an empty wall at the foot of her bed and enough room to just walk. Therefore I couldn't put any piece of furniture. "What to do with this big blank bore" I was thinking as I was staring at the sky high pile of books on the floor. Book shelves of course. So off to Ikea we went and purchased 3 picture ledges at $16.99/ea and used them to hold her books. She loves picking out her bedtime story and looks at her books for a few minutes like she was shopping for a pair of shoes..lol

This now leaves us with empty space above. We didn't want to place another shelf as it would be too difficult for even me to get a book. So instead, we hung wall art. Again, Ikea to the rescue. We purchased 3 frames to match the ledges, at $12.99/ea. I'm quite picky on art therefore I just went on-line and found free printable ones. Yes you read right, FREE! Voila! Her room is now complete :)

(I apologize for grainy pictures. Was taken in bad lighting with an iphone. Terrible blogger I am...tsk tsk)

Put away your frayed denim skirts because it's all about the "clean jean" skirt. But wait for it...with buttons!
Button down skirts are the hottest rage. Length don't matter and neither does fabric but it's got to have buttons going down the front center. Denim and suede however are the most popular choice. And yes again, all due to the 70's fashion trend this season. However I do see this skirt trend going through Fall as well. So get on it ladies.

As I'm sure you've seen on your instagram and blogroll feeds, many fashionista's are donning lace-up ballet flats. The laces give this classic shoe shape an edgy revamp.
They can be worn with dresses to create a pretty outfit for a brunch date or perhaps a picnic date, which I feel more men nowadays should get in the habit of instigating. Or liven up a basic tee and boyfriend jeans ensemble for a cool everyday look.
My point is, if you haven't caught on yet...get the damn shoes! They are a must for Spring/Summer 2015.
