cozy up

12.07.2011

The other day I came across this DIY and my jaw literally dropped. I was speechless and that rarely happens. I immediately fell in love with the blanket and although it might take me a year and a day to make it, this DIY is at the top my to-do list.

painted tip

11.17.2011

Remember a few posts back, I wrote that I had 2 DIY ideas in mind. Well yesterday one of the ideas came to life. I DIY'd the tip of an old pair of shoes to give the appearance of a toe cap which is incredibly hot right now. I wanted to use a pair of electric blue shoes however I came across a white pair of stiletto's that I hadn't worn in ages. The first thought that came to mind was these babies from Isabel Marant. Adding an ankle strap is a whole other story so dying the tip is as far as I went and I love them.

I used masking tape to cover the part of the tip that I did not want dyed. I also stuffed the shoes with paper to not dye the interior of the shoe. I used Krylon spray paint in Gloss Black, about 3 coats. Let dry and...

ideas

11.11.2011

The following are 2 DIY ideas that are lingering around in my head at the moment.

Toe caps are the latest fad. I have this pair of electric blue pumps that I'd love to give some spice to by adding a toe cap. I just have no idea where to begin. What colour (do I play it safe and just go black but I really do love the neon yellow), what spray paint, etc. Any tips?

And my other idea is adding side stripes on some pants. This is not too difficult to make. I just need to figure out which pants to do this to and what fabric to use for the side stripe. Hopefully I'll post this one soon :)

studs hugging my neck

11.09.2011

Another DIY scratched off of my to-do list. An oldie but a goodie, I studded the collar of a blouse sitting in my closet begging to be revamped. My fingers are sore but the blouse looks great!

fishtail

11.07.2011

I love the ever so popular fish tail skirt and thought to myself "how difficult could it be to DIY one of my current skirts into one?" Easier than I could've imagined. I had this maxi skirt in my closet and found that I hadn't worn it in quite a bit of time therefore this was the perfect candidate for my little project.
I folded the skirt side over side, the way you would fold a pair of trousers. (Not with the front on top of the back.) I then cut an arch from where the front of the skirt would be towards the side seam. You can play around with the size of the arch depending on how mini or midi you want the front of the skirt to be. Et voila! Also don't forget to sew the hem of the skirt in order to avoid the fabric from fraying.
Love my new skirt!

recycle baby food jars

10.18.2011

Liam's old baby food jars + spray paint (any colour you desire) + paint marker (any colour you desire) = new spice jars!

I washed Liam's old baby food jars, the label came off easily during wash. I then removed the stubborn label glue that was stuck on the glass with some nail polish remover. Spray painted the lids with black chalkboard paint. (I was planning on writing the spice contents in chalk but I couldn't find chalk with a small enough tip. Even sharpening the chalk did not work.) Therefore I purchased this Sharpie Paint Opaque Marker and that did the trick.
These jars fit perfectly in my spice drawer, and I can fit much more jars than my original jars. The jars are also able to contain a bigger amount of spice than my old ones.
And yes, my spices are in alphabetical order :)

DIY fringe top

3.06.2011

I came across this fringe crop top from Topshop and immediately fell in love. But why spend $30 when you can so easily make this yourself. Which is what I did and I spent only $1.99!
Newborn, husband away on business...where do you find the time you ask? When baby sleeps, you sleep...not me...I DIY!!!!

debut

10.17.2010

A while back, I mentioned that I was having trouble finding a dress for the gazillion weddings I had this year. Therefore to make my life easier, I decided to make a dress. 1. It'll be a one of kind. 2. It'll fit like a glove. 3. I'll get exactly what I want.

It took one month to make due to my busy schedule however the creation is finally complete and I love every inch of this masterpiece. I wore it yesterday to a wedding and got nothing but compliments all evening. I have no one to thank for this but my mom. All I did was choose the fabrics and design the dress but the mastermind behind all the sewing is her. She's amazing!!! I can't wait to start working on more pieces.
I swear, I fall more in love with my husband every time I look at him. What handsome fella!!

Old Aldo shoes which I spiced up by adding bows to the back.

DIY

8.13.2010

This isn't really an outfit post as it's Friday and I tend to be lazy on Friday's, it's to show you a very minor and simple DIY that I did yesterday.
I had this very "blah" navy blazer as you can see here. Ingredients to add some spice:

  • Gold buttons to replace the tone on tone navy originals.
  • Shoulder pads to give the blazer some shape.
Tweak for 30 minutes and presto...you've got yourself a delicious trendy blazer that looks like you spent a fortune on but in fact cost you peanuts..ENJOY!

P.S. I added a little design in my last pic to take the attention away from my feet. I hate my toes but I just had to show you these cute sandals. They're old but I just love the gold detail. Goes perfect with my new buttons :)
